of ingredients for non-breastfed
infants with reflux and regurgitation
Study objective: To examine the effect of anti-regurgitation formula thickened with locust bean gum (Aptamil AR) on acid and non-acid gastroesophageal reflux.

A total of 82 regurgitation episodes were recorded, of which only 15 were in the Aptamil AR group
A total of 1183 reflux episodes were recorded, of which only 536 were in the Aptamil AR group
Significantly lower regurgitation frequency and amount was observed after feedings with Aptamil AR
Pronounced decrease in the occurrrence of reflux was observed after feedings with Aptamil AR
Maximal height reached by refluxed material on the esophagus was decreased after feedings with Aptamil AR, although difference between feedings was non-significant
Thickening of anti-regurgitation infant formula with locust bean gum resulted in significantly lower regurgitation frequency and amount in otherwise healthy infants. The effect was caused by a reduction in non-acid reflux episodes, as well as a decrease in the maximal reflux height reach in the esophagus.
Study objective: To evaluate the nutritional value of an Anti-Regurgitation formula with Locust Bean Gum in order to establish whether the addition Locust Bean Gum fibers influences the intestinal absorption of nutrients and minerals.

weight and length gain were comparable in both groups
Within the Aptamil AR group we see comparable mineral* levels in the blood for Iron, calcium, phosphorus and zinc (serum parameters) comparable to standard formula.1
Plasma urea level** was higher in the Aptamil AR group, this might be explained by higher mean intake in this group. The albumin level was lower in the Aptamil AR Group.
Anti-Regurgitation formula with Locust Bean Gum delivered the right level of minerals, which were withiin normal range in line with expert recommendations. Moreover, nutriet levels were comparable to those obtained with standard infant formula.
